A favorite among kids, this creepy-crawly candy is naturally gluten-free. For those with extreme sensitivity, note that the candy is packaged on equipment that may have traces of wheat. Ingredients and manufacturing processes can change, so please read the ingredient and nutrition label carefully.  Need help in understanding what to look for on those labels? Hi- I find the statement “packeged on equipment that may have traces of wheat” confusing. I take this to mean it wasn’t produced on a line that also has wheat, but the bags are put in boxes in an area where other products which may have gluten have also been put into boxes? Am I overthinking it? My kids have Celiac. Should I just treat it as a potential real source of cross-contamination and move on? Thanks for your help!

Hi Jacquie. We definitely stay away from anything with that kind of disclaimer, having been victims of cross-contamination too many times. “Shared equipment” is risky business so we try to stick to products that are Certified Gluten-Free whenever possible. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the FAST response! As I am kind of new to this, they’ve been diagnoses for 7 months now, should I only buy stuff for them with a 10/10 rating on your site then? Because this has a 9 and I thought that made it considered safe for Celiac. No? I understand if something isn’t certified GF there’s no promises. But with young and picky children, it leaves very little to feed them. Things like Kraft Jet-puff marshmallow for instance, not rated GF – but everyone considers them safe… Again, thanks for your help!

You’re right, it’s challenging. Especially with kids. We suggest reading as much as you can, reaching out to manufacturers when necessary, asking questions on public forums and ultimately using your best judgement. Our confidence scale isn’t scientific but it’s a good general guide. If you’re concerned about a specific product it’s best to reach out to the manufacturer. Everyone’s story is slightly different and somewhat unique but you’ll start to discover what works best for you and you’ll find the community you trust. It does get easier, hang in there!
